Perthshire AdvertiserPerth Youth Futsal round up Dec 5Dec 5 2008 by Les Stewart, Perthshire Advertiser Friday
The Perth Youth Futsal winter 2008 sessions conclude next Friday (December 12) and will feature a skills coaching session for boys and girls aged 3-14 (7-8pm), as well as league cup, penalties and shootout competitions for 12-14 year olds (also 7-8pm) and 15-17 year olds (8-9pm). There is also a coaching session for the U15/18 select teams from 6-7pm.
The club were in Belgium last week competing again in the WPFT Tournament.
The PYF team faced seven teams in their opening group and did well to emerge unbeaten with wins over opposition from France, the Netherlands, Ireland and Romania and draws with teams from Belarus, Belgium and Poland, to finish second in the group behind title contenders from Belarus, who eventually finished third.
Unfortunately, the team came unstuck in the first knockout game when a defensive mistake allowed the opposition to take a surprising lead and the PYF team were unable to claw back their advantage.
The club have arranged a series of events in the early part of 2009, ranging from friendly games home and away to a televised English tournament, as well as the usual summer trips, this time featuring U15 and U18 trips to Spain and Cyprus.
There will be a trials / training session for youth players from 6 till 7pm at the next session (Dec 12) for players interested in being part of the squads which will be representing PYF in 2009. Call Steve Chatila on 07849 321 938.
