FAI Futsal PortalNDSL embraces Futsal Development Module – and Robinho approves!Friday, 05 December 2008The North Dublin Schoolboys League has made a very progressive step by deciding to implement a four week Indoor Futsal module at the developmental under 8 and 9 age groups during the January winter break. Futsal is the official UEFA and FIFA version of indoor 5 a side football and is widely acclaimed as the ideal developmental environment for producing technically excellent footballers.
A long list of world superstars such as Messi, Ronaldo, Kaka and Ronaldinho acclaim the importance of Futsal in helping to develop their ball skills when they were youngsters. Manchester City’s Brazilian superstar and record signing, Robinho says of the game which helped his skill development:
“I started playing Futsal when I was four years old and most of the moves I use on the pitch come from playing Futsal. Playing Futsal as a young child really helps to develop ball skills.”
And Robinho says he hopes Irish kids will take the opportunity to embrace the game he loves so much and which helped him on his road to stardom:
“I hope that Futsal can develop well in Ireland because no doubt it will be a great help to Irish children in the development of their ball skills and quick thinking.”
The NDSL Futsal module will run each Saturday from the 10th of January to the 31st of January inclusive at the impressive Gormanstown College Sports Hall which also hosts the NDSL Christmas Indoor Football tournament in late December.
The Futsal fixture dates are as follows:
Saturday 10th January
Saturday 17th January
Saturday 24th January
Saturday 31st January
The pilot Futsal module is open to all teams competing in the NDSL U8s and U9s divisions. However, the module will only cater for 30 teams at each age group on a first come, first served basis, so a quick response to competition coordinator, Vicky Fisher (details below) is urged from managers of those teams interested. The competition promises to be the ideal preparation for the re opening of the outdoor NDSL football season early in February. FAI National Futsal Coordinator, Derek O’Neill said of the move:
“This is a really positive step by the NDSL. They are following a move made by other progressive leagues such as the DDSL and ADSL in providing guaranteed weather proof football for children at a time when fixtures are badly affected by inclement weather. From a player development point of view, I am delighted that the NDSL has decided to implement this initiative. I’ve no doubt that it will be a great success and more importantly, that the children will really enjoy playing Futsal and have a chance to express their skills in a great environment.”
